Well hello there! Tis the season to curl up on the couch, look back in awe and ponder past achievements. So let’s get cozy, grab a cuppa, and review what happened at your local friendly teachers’ association in 2025.
12+ ELTABB Events
12+ events by and for ELTABBers were organised in 2025 that included professional development workshops, stammtisch socials and more. Here are a few more details:
6 Workshops
Our six professional development events were a mix of online and in-person.
We covered a wide range of topics, such as using AI as a teaching collaborator, how to get students to speak spontaneously and with confidence, and tips and strategies for teacher wellbeing.
6 Stammtisch Socials
6 stammtisch socials were organized by our Stammtisch Coordinator, Richard Neilson. Catching up with our ELT colleagues and friends was as much fun as the photo suggests. 🙂

We had some lovely and scenic nights featuring boats and stars, and a gemütlich Christmas stammtisch at Nikolaiviertel.
1 Expolingua Fair
In good old-fashioned fashion, ELTABB had a booth at Berlin’s biggest language fair, Expolingua.
For two days, a handful of enthusiastic members managed the stand, made friendly connections, and enlightened the general public on the benefits of membership.
We all had a lovely time chatting, laughing, and learning. A big thank you to our Expolingua team: Galina, Miro, Mariana, Kit, Rich, Thomas, Phoebe, Michael, and Sandra.
1 Bonus Event: EAP Conference
Though not technically an “ELTABB” event, this conference day was organised by ELTABB members and partially funded by the association.
For the second year in a row, Mandy Welfare, Annie Heringer, Vicky Allan, Mariana Ramirez, and their team did a fantastic job organising a full-day conference for teachers of English for Academic Purposes.
Just like last year, the feedback was awesome, and some of our teachers reported professional opportunities following the event.
Kudos to the EAP team!
12 Newsletters
12 monthly newsletters were sent out in 2025. As always, our editor Kit Flemons kept things relevant, light, and witty. If you would like to receive our newsletter, just go to eltabb.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and sign up.
6 Journal articles
6 journal articles were published in 2025. Topics ranged from more “classroomy” perspectives, such as using reading lessons to improve pronunciation, to soothing your learners’ speaking anxiety and streamlining communication in work teams.
You can find all of our articles here:
Connections – All about Teaching English in Berlin and online
A big thank you to our dedicated writers, editors, and faithful readers! It has been lovely to hear that for some of our members, the ELTABB Journal was the first touchpoint that got them interested in the association.
If there’s an ESL topic that excites you and would like to write an article, just send an email to journaleditor@eltabb.com. Can’t wait to hear from you!
2k+ Followers on Social Media
ELTABB’s social media following rose by 6.17% in 2025, resulting in a total amount of 2306 subscribers.
The previous year’s trend carried over into 2025:
Instagram, our rising star, continued to shine brightly (+20.00%), with LinkedIn being a close second (+15.36%). Facebook, still our biggest platform, saw a slight decrease (-1.45%).
Overall, we’re very happy with the growth of our social media presence, and aren’t missing Twitter one bit. 😉
Changes to the Board
Jennifer Knaeble stepped down as Treasurer, and Phoebe Blackburn rose to the occasion and took over the role in 2025. Richard Neilson joined us as Stammtisch Coordinator in a non-board role. Ciara Jennings replaced Niloufar Amanzadeh as Membership Coordinator, also in a non-board capacity.
